Father charged after girl rescued from hot car in Boise

Firefighters broke a window to rescue the 3-year-old girl. Officials said her father was in a nearby business, and it was more than 120 degrees inside the car.

BOISE — First responders rescued a child that was in a hot car Thursday afternoon in Boise.

Boise police, Boise fire crews and Ada County Paramedics responded at around 4:53 p.m. to the 6700 block of State Street to a report of a child locked in a vehicle. A concerned citizen said they tried unsuccessfully to find the child's parents.

Crews arrived to find the child sweating, and the windows and doors were shut and locked. Firefighters broke a window and took the child out.

The child - a 3-year-old girl - was treated by paramedics for heat-related distress. Fire officials said the girl is going to be fine and was released to a parent.

Using a thermal imager, firefighters determined that the temperature inside the car was more than 120 degrees. It's estimated that the child was in the car for around 15 minutes.

Police said the girl's father, Christopher Leis, 34, of Boise was in a nearby business during the rescue, and he was booked into the Ada County Jail on a felony injury to child charge.
