A wildfire burning in the forest about 60 miles north of Boise has forced the closure of a popular stretch of the North Fork of the Payette River.
Officials with the Idaho Department of Lands say the Trestle Fire started around 5 p.m. Monday about four miles north of the Rainbow Bridge.
The fire is burning uphill on mainly private and some Forest Service land. It’s estimated to be about 125 acres in size and less than 10 percent contained.
The Cabarton Road boat launch is closed due to firefighting activity. There are no evacuations, road or trail closures at this time.
The Southern Idaho Timber Protective Association and crews with the U.S. Forest are battling the fire.
Two helicopters, two Single Engine Air Tankers, two SITPA engines, three 20-person hand crews and one 10-person hand crew were fighting the fire on Tuesday. Two more hand crews were en route.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Containment is expected by July 30.
