BOISE, Idaho — The Eagle Fire Department told KTVB at 8:40 p.m. that Highway 55 had reopened after a fire north of Avimor forced officials to close the road. Officials urge drivers to use caution as crews will stay on scene overnight.
The department said the fire started Wednesday afternoon and had burned over 1,500 acres. It confirmed the fire started from a vehicle that caught fire to nearby brush. The grass fire began on the east side of the highway, and officials closed the roadway after the fire jumped the road.
The Boise County Sheriff's Office said the closure was between Avimor and Horseshoe Bend Hill.
Eagle Fire said that the fire is no longer growing and is expected to be fully contained around midnight.
