Wildfire burns home, timber in Wilderness Ranch area

BOISE COUNTY — A fire that broke out Saturday night in the Wilderness Ranch area has destroyed a home and outbuilding, as well as five acres of nearby grass and timber.

The fire started at about 8 p.m. at a house in Wilderness Ranch subdivision 4 near Elk Run Road, said Randall Phelps with the Idaho Department of Lands.

Wilderness Ranch Fire Chief Rick Murray said three people were inside the house when the fire started, but got out safely. The cause of the fire has not been determined.

As the fire spread, air and ground crews from several agencies were called to the area, which was off of the west side of Idaho Highway 21. Responders included Wilderness Ranch, Clear Creek, Robie Creek, Thorn Creek, Idaho Department of Lands, Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service, and the Boise County Sheriff's Office.

Phelps said helicopters made two bucket drops that slowed or stopped the progression of the fire.

Murray said Saturday night that the fire is contained and there is no concern about it spreading.
