MERIDIAN - A 20-year-old Nampa woman is behind bars after police say she had sex with a boy younger than 16 years old.

It happened two weeks ago in Meridian.

Officers say Janice Earline Gates had sex with the boy after meeting him through the boy’s mother a month ago. 

Gates and the boy were communicating through text message before meeting up at a local park and having intercourse.

The boy told his mother about the relationship, and she informed the Meridian Police Department. 

Officers arrested Gates and charged her with lewd conduct with a minor under 16.
