EAGLE, Idaho — The Treasure Valley Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1025 regularly set up a booth and help other veterans that are in need. President Craig Hoyt, said they were set up outside at the Albertsons on Eagle Rd., to collect money to help veterans in need, give out benefit information and just hang out together.
"It's very important to support the veterans that fought for the country, and there's many of them that need help, more than you can imagine," he said.
Hoyt said they do it on a regular basis; Set up a table of benefit information that some veterans may not know about, collect donations for veterans in crisis, tell stories and visit with one another.
Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) is a nationwide organization that advocate for veterans' rights. It also has thousands of local chapters, like 1025.
"VVA knows what returning veterans face. We have been through it before and we know that, despite all the rhetoric, returning veterans will face major problems. VVA will be here for as long as it takes to make sure that those who serve our country receive the care and respect they have earned," the website states.
On the local level, the organization specifically works to build community by helping veterans in their area. Hoyt said veterans are sent to them from different locations and agencies and they help them monetarily, with counseling or just if someone needs to talk to other veterans.
