Bogus Basin replacing, upgrading two historic chairlifts

Bogus Basin on Thursday announced plans to replace the Coach and Bitterroot chairlifts in the summer of 2024.

BOISE, Idaho — Bogus Basin on Thursday announced plans to replace two of its historic chairlifts in the the 2024 summer.

Bogus Basin said in a news release it will be replacing and upgrading the Coach and Bitterroot chairlifts, two of the three oldest chairlifts on the mountain. The nonprofit said the project is to keep up with the "booming" demand.

"Over the past decade, Southwestern Idaho’s Treasure Valley has experienced a remarkable population surge. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the population of the Boise Metropolitan Statistical Area, which encompasses much of the Treasure Valley, grew by approximately 25.3% between 2010 and 2020," Bogus Basin officials said.

The recreation area also said first-time riders were experiencing long lines on the Coach Chairlift, and the Bitterroot Chairlift wasn't intended to accommodate the surge of people.

Bogus Basin it will be upgrading the two chairlifts into fixed-grip quad chairlifts.
