Nampa man arrested in connection to Kuna fight

The fight occurred on Friday, Feb. 9, at popular off-road bonfire spot Kuna Butte, leaving a man hospitalized with a "severe head injury."

BOISE, Idaho — A 19-year-old Nampa man was arrested in connection to a fight on Friday, Feb. 9, which left a man with a "severe head injury" at a bonfire at Kuna Butte. Police are still searching for other men they believe were involved in the attack.

The Ada County Sheriff's Office (ACSO) said in a news release that Christopher R. Smith from Nampa was arrested on Thursday, Feb. 15. Police said they received a tip that identified Smith as the person who hit a 25-year-old man over the head with a bottle, subsequently hospitalizing him.

As KTVB previously reported, ACSO said the incident happened around 11 p.m. when deputies received a call from a witness to the fight that occurred at a popular off-road area dubbed "Kuna Butte," near Kuna Cave and Swan Falls. Arriving deputies said they found a man bleeding from the head from an injury in a parked car on Swan Falls Road.

Paramedics took the man to the hospital for his injuries, said ACSO.

The sheriff's office said they interviewed the people there, and they all had the same statement below:

The man got into some kind of altercation with a woman at the bonfire, at which point a group of men then attacked the man, hitting him over the head with a bottle and then kicking and punching him while he was on the ground.

Other people leaving the bonfire told deputies they heard about the fight but didn't identify those responsible, said ACSO.

A spokesperson with the ACSO said they are seeking the public's help to identify other men they believe were involved in the attack. Prior to Smith's arrest, police stated they were looking for "up to three men in connection with the fight."

Police said Smith was brought to Ada County Jail, where he is being held without bond. Smith's court appearance is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 16.

Police are investigating the incident. If you have any information about the incident, contact the Ada County Dispatch at (208) 377-6790.
