Boise gas prices rise about 3 cents in the last week

Prices in Boise are roughly 21 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and 92 cents per gallon less than a year ago.

BOISE, Idaho — The average gas price in Boise has risen in the last week, by roughly 3 cents, marking a new average price of $2.87 per gallon.

According to GasBuddy, who surveys 216 stations in Boise, prices in Boise are roughly 21 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and 92 cents per gallon less than a year ago. The cheapest station in Boise was priced at $2.71 per gallon on Sunday, while the most expensive station comes in at $2.93 per gallon, a difference of 22 cents per gallon.

As for the Gem State, the new average price is $2.92 per gallon, which is three cents more than a week ago, according to AAA. The lowest priced station in the state on Sunday was $2.49 per gallon where the highest priced station was $3.36 per gallon, a difference of of 87 cents, according to GasBuddy.

For most expensive fuel, Idaho ranks 34th in the nation. AAA points out that Idaho's average price is typically 30-50 cents above the national average, however this week, the opposite is true.

"Gasoline demand is rising, and inventories are shrinking, creating upward pressure on prices across the nation," AAA Idaho public affairs director Matthew Conde said.  "However, the effect has been somewhat dampened in our region by strong refinery production.  Pump prices may wobble back and forth this week, but a trend of more expensive fill-ups is likely on the horizon."

Nationally speaking, the price of gasoline has risen just over 5 cents per gallon in the last week, marking a new national average of $3.17 per gallon.  It's up just over 9 cents per gallon in the last month, and 20 cents lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy.

The average price of diesel has also risen almost 7 cents in the last week, sitting at $3.99 per gallon.
