BOISE, Idaho — The Transgender population is relatively small, not only in Idaho but in the U.S. According to the Williams Institute, a think tank at UCLA Law that is dedicated to conducting research on sexual orientation and gender identity law and public policy, in 2022, 8,000 people considered themselves transgender in the Gem State. In Idaho the population is 1.939 million.
For people of the Trans community Boise Pride is important and this year the festival is having its first ever Trans Joy March organized by A Queer Chaplain. The theme is "out of the Shadows and Into the Light."
"Across the country, 635 anti-trans bills have been introduced, with 18 of those in Idaho alone. Now, more than ever, we need to stand together and show our support for the trans community," the website states. "We are making history by organizing Idaho's first trans march. This event aims to demonstrate solidarity with trans Idahoans, raise trans visibility, and celebrate our local trans history and the incredible individuals who are part of it."
