BOISE, Idaho — Zoo Boise is inviting the public to meet its newest member - Diana. The tiger, named after Wonder Woman, is now on display to the public for the first time.
Diana is an Amur tiger, a critically endangered species with only about 540 of the big cats left in the wild. They're native to parts of eastern Russian and China. Amur tigers can grow up to ten feet in length and weigh up to 600 pounds.
The zoo isn't stopping there, this summer they're celebrating the 50th anniversary of the class children's book, "Very Hungry Caterpillar," by decorating the whole zoo around the book.
"We have photo ops with the very hungry caterpillar himself, we have our brand new plaza that just opened today and the gibbons have a brand new exhibit so people can get the chance to see them up close, very intimate," Jeff Agosta with Zoo Boise said. "Also for the first time ever, we have feeding sticks for the butterflies in bloom, so people get to have them land on their stick and feed them."
The gibbon exhibit includes indoor and outdoor areas for the apes to enjoy and play in. Guests also have different viewing areas to get up close with the animals.
On July 15, the zoo will open its new 2.5-acre exhibit, featuring 20 new species, including alligators and baboons.
KTVB is a proud sponsor of Zoo Daze.
