BOISE, Idaho — A new collection at the Boise Art Museum (BAM) titled, "Portraits of Sky" opens on January 27. The collection was created from over a hundred-year period and features different types of artworks that are all inspired from the sky. The Executive Director and CEO of BAM, Melanie Fales, told KTVB that people's relationship with nature is a big takeaway from the exhibit.
“We are excited to share this selection of artworks from Boise Art Museum’s Permanent Collection that we have joined together through the thematic lens of artists’ interpretations of sky. Sky and nature are of universal importance to humans, and this exhibition highlights artists’ depictions of sky across a range of styles, media, time periods, and vantage points,' Fales said.
The exhibit will run for an undisclosed amount of time and features all different types of art like ceramics, paintings and photography, there is even a kimono and a mask included in the collection. There are also over 20 artists from all over the world, including Roy Lichtenstein, Steve Heinemann, Toshio Shibata, Vija Celmins and Ernest Albert.
"The artworks capture awe-inspiring moments and reflect our emotional and physical connections to clouds, stars, and sky. I hope people walk away with a new, perhaps shifted perspective of sky and self after experiencing this exhibition,” Fales said.
