BOISE, Idaho — Boise is booming, and so are countless businesses, attractions and events.
Experiencing them all in one day seems impossible. But thanks to Boise Bicycle Tours, you can explore Idaho’s capital city in a unique and intimate way.
You’ve probably noticed the groups of cyclists peddling around town on their comfortable cruisers, their faces lighting up as they take in the beautiful Boise landscape, acting as if they are seeing it for the first time.
Well, chances are they are seeing it for the first time.
“Most of my clients come to me directly off the airplane or a long car ride,” Boise Bicycle Tours owner Shawn Welsh said.
Since Boise - and the rest of Idaho, for that matter - has become a popular destination for both touring and settling, Shawn and his wife Cindy saw a great opportunity to create a very small business - or what Shawn calls “small potatoes.”
Though Cindy has what Shawn refers to as "a real job" working as a nurse, Shawn spends his days taking groups of people around Boise in an intimate and educational three-hour journey on two wheels.
Shawn describes exploring Boise on bike as the Goldilocks approach, “Walking is too slow and you cannot get to as many places, a car is too fast and you miss stuff, while biking is just right.”
You can see Shawn guiding riders down one of his many tour routes almost every month of the year.
“There is only one month I recall not taking a group out for a tour, and that is January," he said. "As long as there is no snow on the ground, I’ll show you around.”
