KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho — The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office therapy dog has been nominated for a national award.
The therapy dog, named Rocket, was nominated for the First Responder Paws Therapy Dog Award.
Voting will be open to the public from November 25 through December 4.
The winning dog and handler will receive the following, according to the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office:
- A $2000 check in support of their work from FHE Health
- A gift basket from the online pet retailer Chewy
- A feature blog that reaches more than 100,000 people on social media and a press release announcing their news
- A $2,500 donation made in their honor to FHE Health’s partner organization, First Responders Pack Foundation, which exists to train more therapy dogs for first responders
The sheriff's office said Rocket is a certified therapy dog who helps both first responders and the community. Rocket provides emotional support to the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office staff, helping hundreds of deputies, firefighters and veterans after violent and tragic incidents.
