BOISE, Idaho — Gov. Brad Little will lead a trade mission to Taiwan in October - building on a relationship that is already paying off for Idaho businesses.
The relationship between Idaho and the East Asian nation is exemplified by new partnership between a Boise startup and a Taiwanese tech company that are working to reduce errors in hospital operating rooms.
Boise-based sales and marketing startup SMHeuristics is working with Brain Navi, a Taiwanese company that makes robotic technology designed to help doctors be more precise when performing brain surgery.
SMHeuristics will work on Brain Navi's sales and marketing efforts in the United States.
The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding Wednesday evening at Trailhead in downtown Boise. SMHeuristics co-founder Nick Kawaguchi said at the event that the relationship between Idaho and Taiwan is just getting started.
"A lot of the companies that we are talking to in Taiwan will be opening manufacturing facilities or offices here in Boise, which is going to create jobs," Kawaguchi said.
SMHeuristics started up about two years ago and has 15 employees. Company executives will be part Gov. Little's trade delegation to Taiwan in October.
