Idaho initial unemployment claims see 4% increase

A total of 3,794 initial claims were filed for the week ending on August 22.

BOISE, Idaho — Initial unemployment claims for the week ending on August 22 increased 4% from the previous week in Idaho. The four-week average of initial unemployment claims decreased by 6%. 

3,794 initial claims were filed during this week.

Continued claims dropped by 13%, totaling 16,414. This is the 16th consecutive week continued claims have dropped in Idaho.

The four-week average of continued claims dropped by 11%.

Laid-off Idahoans filed four times more claims for the week ending on August 22 than during the same week last year. The week's total claims were 4% more than the weekly claims filed during the height of the 2009 recession.

$14.1 million was paid out to out of work Idahoans last week.

COVID-19 related benefit payments reached a total of $793 million. Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) has made up $532 million of benefits paid out. Regular unemployment benefits made up $186 million.
