BOISE, Idaho — All across Idaho, wineries are gearing up for a big celebration.
June is Idaho Wine and Cider Month.
Former Idaho Gov. Butch Otter made the declaration 10 years ago and since then the state’s wine industry has experienced tremendous growth.
According to the Idaho Wine Commission, there has been a 30% increase in the number of wineries, and the industry contributes more than $170 million to Idaho’s economy annually.
During Idaho Wine Month there are nearly 50 special events planned around the state at wineries, cideries, vineyards, restaurants and even grocery stores.
Gov. Brad Little took part in a bottle signing event at the new Albertsons Market Street store in Meridian Friday afternoon.
"We are so grateful for the success and support Idaho Wine and Cider Month has received over the last 10 years," said Moya Dolsby, executive director of the Idaho Wine Commission. "The public has embraced the quality flavors of Idaho wines and ciders. Some of the greatest advocates of our industry have been Idaho residents. It's that support that helped our award-winning region grow and develop. We hope Idaho Wine and Cider Month inspires more people to taste, buy, and spread the word about Idaho's amazing wine and cider."
The Idaho Wine Commission says June is the perfect time to taste and explore the unique flavors of Idaho wines as wineries offer their spring releases.
