BOISE, Idaho — The number of initial unemployment claims in Idaho rose 3% during the week ending Sept. 5. A total of 3,804 initial unemployment claims were filed that week, 118 more than the previous week.
The four week average of initial claims increased by 4%. Around 3,723 initial claims are filed each week.
Continued claims decreased by 10% from the previous week. This marks the 18th consecutive week of declines. A total of 13,021 continued claims were filed during the week ending Sept. 5.
The four-week average of continued claims also dropped 10%. About 15,658 claims are continuously filed in Idaho each week.
Idaho workers have filed four times more claims than were filed during the same week in 2019, and 4% more than the average weekly claims filed at the height of the 2009 Great Recession.
The Idaho Dept. of Labor has paid Idahoans a total of $846 million since the pandemic began in March. Regular state unemployment insurance benefits made up $192 million of the total, while Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) made up $535.2 million.
