BOISE, Idaho — Residents in the Treasure Valley may soon see an increase in their water bill, per the request of supplier, Veolia Water Idaho.
According to a news release, Veolia Water submitted the request to increase rates due to "increased water expenses and costs associated with plant additions."
Tuesday evening, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., the Idaho Public Utilities Commission will host a workshop providing residents the opportunity to give input on the potential increase in their water bills.
On the agenda for the Tuesday's meeting, is to provide the public with an overview of the modifications requested and the justification for the increase in the rates, per Veolia's application.
Idaho Public Utilities Commission staff will be present Tuesday evening to answer questions from the public. However, questions submitted by attendees will not formally be on the docket until the customer/public hearing set to be scheduled at a later date.
The request follows a $70 million investment to improve water quality and resiliency for homes and businesses made over the last two years.
In Veolia's application to the commission, Veolia said "the proposed changes in rates and charges are just and reasonable. The requested rate of return under the revised rates and charges will be 7.77%," which Veolia states is a fair return on the utility's investment in property used to provide water service.
Treasure Valley residents may participate in the workshop via telephone or the online portal here. Follow the meeting details prompt below:
