CASCADE, Idaho — After a months-long search, a new camp host is now in residence on Horsethief Reservoir's east side.
That means three campgrounds - Horsethief Creek, Trout Landing, and Beaver Tail - are back open, just in time for the busy 4th of July holiday.
All Horsethief campsites are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
On the other side of the reservoir, the popular Kings Point campground will be closing on July 17 and will remain closed for the remainder of the camping season.
According to the Idaho Department of Fish and Game, major renovation efforts will be ongoing at the campground throughout the summer and fall. Officials say the improvements include a paved campground loop and vehicle pads, paved parking areas at the Kings Point boat ramp, four ADA-compliant campsites, and paved walking paths throughout the entire campground.
The Kings Point closure includes the boat ramp, but boaters can launch via the ramp at Trout Landing Campground.
