Ada County Sheriff deputies team up with Big Brothers and Big Sisters to mentor children

Deputies were also paired up with children who have had run-ins with law enforcement in the past.

BOISE, Idaho — Ada County Sheriff deputies and staff are mentoring children who hope to become police officers and deputies themselves one day.

This is a new partnership between the sheriff's office and Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Southwest Idaho.

Deputies were also paired up with children who have had run-ins with law enforcement in the past.

The Bigs in the Blue Program kicked off the event on Saturday morning with a party at the Boise Watershed. Mentors were able to meet the kids and their families at the event.

"We're really looking to bridge some of those gaps and really help the officers connect with the community they are serving," Emily Johnson, the CEO of Big Brothers and Big Sisters, said. "And to help our families really see officers as humans and the people that are really doing the good work that they are doing."

Johnson says Big Brothers and Big Sister is always looking for volunteers who would consider mentoring a Little.

They are also always accepting kids who might need a Big, just contact Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Southwest Idaho here.
