BOISE, Idaho —

Elizabeth Smart will be visiting Boise during an event at the Boise Centre hosted by the Faces of Hope Foundation along with Holland M. Ware Charitable Foundation on April 19.

Smart was abducted from her home in Salt Lake City in June 2002, when she was 14 years old. Her captors imprisoned and abused her for nine months, until she was rescued in March 2003.

Smart has since become an advocate for survivors of child abduction and sexual assault. She has chronicled her experiences in a New York Times bestselling book called “My Story.”

Smart has also worked alongside other survivors and the Department of Justice to create a survivors guide called "You're Not Alone: The Journey from Abduction to Empowerment," which encourages children who have gone through similar experiences to know that there is hope for their future.

"Elizabeth's story is a story of hope and healing. She is a role model for all survivors and an inspiration for everyone who works to help victims become survivors," said Faces of Hope Executive Director, Paige Dinger. "Faces of Hope is honored to host Elizabeth Smart. She is a model for our mission; overcoming interpersonal trauma, finding the strength to move forward, reclaiming one's life, and never, ever giving up. We hope that sharing her story will uplift those in our community experiencing interpersonal abuse and inspire our community to remember that we all have a role in creating safety from interpersonal violence in the Treasure Valley.”

Individual tickets for the luncheon event are $60. All proceeds from the Elizabeth Smart luncheon will support victim services at Faces of Hope. Tickets and sponsorships can be purchased on the Faces of Hope website.
