ONTARIO, Ore. -- An Ontario man is in custody after police say he shot another man in Malheur County early Friday morning.
The Malheur County Sheriff's Office said dispatch received a 911 call around 2:45 a.m. about a man who was shot. The call came from a residence in Malheur County just south of Ontario.
Malheur County deputies and Ontario police officers responded and found 27-year-old Ontario-area resident Christopher Harold Kygar walking on the road with blood coming from his face.
Kygar was rushed to Saint Alphonsus in Ontario, then transferred to Saint Alphonsus in Boise. He was able to give deputies information immediately after he was shot, Malheur County Sheriff's Sgt. Bob Speelman said.
Kygar told investigators that 19-year-old Ian Daniel Inger of Ontario shot him in the face. He also told investigators that Inger left the area in Kygar's girlfriend's vehicle.
The vehicle was later reported stolen to Idaho authorities, and a search was conducted throughout the morning.
Oregon State Police located the vehicle at around 12:25 p.m. as it was being driven on Railroad Avenue in Malheur County.
Inger was stopped and arrested without incident by Malheur County deputies and Oregon State Police.
Speelman said Kygar and Inger were parked on the road south of town when the shooting happened. The victim and suspect were friends, and a motive in the attack is unclear, he said.
Inger was booked into the Malheur County Jail on charges of attempted murder, first-degree assault, unauthorized use of a stolen vehicle and possession of a stolen vehicle.
Speelman said Kygar was shot once in the face. He was last reported to be in good condition, the sheriff's office said.
Friday's incident was not the suspect's first brush with the law: Inger was arrested in June 2015 for nearly killing a 28-year-old by stabbing him repeatedly in the throat and torso. According to the Argus Observer, Inger was sentenced to 15 months in prison for that attack in September of last year.
