BOISE, Idaho — Conservation officers with Idaho Fish and Game (IDFG) are asking the public for information after five elk that were shot out of season and left to waste in southwest Idaho.
IDFG on Friday said the elk were likely shot in two incidents around March 4-5 in Unit 39. Conservation officer Greg Milner said "there is a chance that these two incidents are related," since the two roads where the animals were left to waste are connected.
Three cow elk were found on the north side of Arrowrock Reservoir's South Fork arm, near the mouth of Camp Creek and below the Neal Bridge.
At the second location, near the Forest Service's Spur 121S access site on South Fork Boise Road, conservation officers found two bulls. Idaho Fish and Game said the elk were five- and six-point bulls.
One of the bulls was moved and someone attempted to hide it under a pile of brush, according to Friday's news release.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Citizens Against Poaching Hotline at 1-800-632-5999 or the Nampa Regional Fish and Game Office at 208-465-8465.
Click here to report information through Idaho Fish and Game's online form. Those who report poaching activities can remain anonymous. A cash reward may be offered if the information provided leads to a citation for a wildlife crime.
