Armed home robbery ends in foot chase, suspect turns gun on self

Police said the suspect broke into two homes, fled from officers and used a handgun to shoot himself.

BOISE, Idaho — On Tuesday, Aug. 13, the Ada County Coroner's office identified the man as 25-year-old Nicholas Tamez of Boise.

According to the Public Information Officer (PIO) for Boise Fire, Lynsey Amundson, officers of the Boise Police Department (BPD) were chasing a home robbery suspect on foot when the man shot himself with his own handgun and died by suicide.

Amundson told KTVB reports of an armed home robbery on Clinton Ln., came in on August 9. Officers had a suspect and were investigating him on August 10 around 8:00 p.m., when they saw him try to break into another home on W. Kingston.

The PIO stated when officers tried to arrest him, they saw he had a handgun, and he ran.

"The suspect did not follow commands from Officers, and there was a foot pursuit before the suspect stopped near the area of Kettering Ave and Camborne St and completed suicide by a self-inflicted gunshot wound," Amundson said.

She furthered there is no threat to the public, the investigation is ongoing, and the suspect's identity will be released by the coroner after the family is notified.
