BOISE, Idaho — A Boise man who attacked two men in December 2020 has been sentenced for voluntary manslaughter and aggravated battery.
Lance Garver, now 52, was arrested in September 2021 in Oregon, about nine months after police say he got into a fight with two men, putting both men in the hospital. One of the men, Steven Ochoa, died in January 2021. The other victim, Cameron Bilbrey, was treated at the hospital and released.
Garver on April 21, 2022, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and aggravated battery. On July 21, Judge Patrick Miller sentenced him to 10 years fixed in prison plus another 5 years indeterminate for manslaughter, and 10 years fixed plus 5 years indeterminate for aggravated battery. A spokesperson for the Ada County Prosecutor's Office said that is equal to the prosecutor's recommendation of a total sentence of 30 years in prison with 20 years fixed before Garver will be eligible for parole.
"These were senseless crimes, and I extend my thoughts to all those who were impacted," Ada Co. Prosecutor Jan Bennetts said in a written statement. "Thank you to the Boise Police detectives for their hard work on this investigation."
