Boise man sentenced to prison for attempting to entice child over the internet

U.S. Attorney Josh Hurwitt announced today that 35-year-old Japheth Shipp was sentenced to 7.5 years in prison.

BOISE, Idaho — A Boise man was sentenced Monday to federal prison after they contacted a child over the internet, attempting to obtain personal information with intent to entice them to engage in a sexual act. 

According to a news release from the United States Attorney's Office, U.S. Attorney Josh Hurwitt sentenced 35-year-old Japheth Shipp to 7.5 years in prison for "attempted use of interstate facilities to transmit information about a minor."

The Attorney's Office said Shipp engaged in inappropriate communication with a BPD detective who he believed to be a 13-year-old girl. During their conversation, Shipp sent explicit images and discussed having sexual contact with the believed child.

Shipp traveled to see the believed child and was arrested by police.

The Attorney's Office said he was also sentenced to ten years of supervised release and is required to register as a sex offender.
