BOISE, Idaho — A Boise man could spend more than three decades in prison for several robberies in the Treasure Valley during a "10-day crime spree" in the summer of 2023.
The Ada County Prosecutor's Office on Tuesday said 56-year-old Warren Shaw was on parole when he robbed a Fred Meyer and the Walmart in Garden City in July 2023. Shaw reportedly robbed the stores with violent threats toward cashiers.
Police in August 2023 were searching for Shaw after he stole a work truck and the tools inside from a local business. The prosecutor's office said Shaw also stole firearms from a resident's safe and attempted to rob a pawn shop. Officials said he threatened the manager of the pawn shop with what appeared to be a gun.
The stolen truck was located by officers with the Boise Police Department on Aug. 5, 2023. The Garden City Police Department said Shaw eluded officers after they located him and the stolen truck on Cassia Street.
Garden City Police last summer said Shaw ran from law enforcement and "drove recklessly through a high school field," before crashing nearby. Police said the Boise man attempted to run again before he was apprehended shortly after.
Shaw on Friday was sentenced to serve at least 20 years and up to 35 years in prison for robbery, eluding law enforcement and felony possession of a firearm. The Ada County Prosecutor's Office in a news release said Shaw "has an extensive criminal history that spans decades and includes convictions of burglary and rape."
“This sentence serves as a deterrent for those who consider committing robberies in our community. This behavior impacts many, and will not be condoned in our county,” Ada County Prosecutor Jan Bennetts said. “Thank you to both the Garden City Police and Boise Police Department for their thorough work on this case, and to my trial team for their hard work.”
