BOISE, Idaho — The Boise Police Department's bomb squad on Tuesday responded to three different calls related to a bomb threat and two potentially-explosive items.
Tuesday's first call came after a thrift store received a pineapple-style hand grenade among a group of donated items. Boise Police said the store was evacuated, before a bomb technician determined the grenade was chemically inactive.
BPD also responded to a storage unit that had been auctioned off, after the auction winner found a military mortar round inside. The item was removed safely and taken to a different location by Boise Police and EOD Technicians with the Mountain Home Air Force base.
The third caller contacted police Tuesday reporting a bomb threat inside of a vehicle. A bomb technician with Boise Police responded, but ultimately determined the threat was false.
Last year, Boise Police's bomb squad responded to roughly 40 calls when including suspicious item reports and assisting the Special Operations Unit, according to BPD's Facebook post. The department has responded to eight calls so far in 2023.
"As always, we value their expertise when responding to concerning calls like these and appreciate the work they do to keep Boise safe," Boise Police said on social media.
