Suspect shot by Boise Police dies at hospital

BPD said the suspect had a knife and was holding a victim hostage. He allegedly came at police and an officer shot him.

BOISE, Idaho — A suspect was shot and killed by Boise Police Officers following an investigation into a possible, "hostage or violent situation." 

The Boise Police Department (BPD) said the incident happened on the afternoon of Nov. 10 around 2:35 p.m., at the 1300 block of N. Liberty Street near St. Alphonsus Hospital. BPD said the man had a knife and was threatening another man and holding them hostage.

After negotiations the police were able to get the suspect to release the victim around 5 p.m. However, the suspect also came out still armed with a knife.

"An officer involved shooting then occurred with one officer firing at and striking the suspect. Officers immediately provided life-saving aid and the suspect was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased," BPD stated. 

The victim had minor injuries and was not taken to the hospital. No police were injured. 

The Ada County Coroner will identify the suspect after notifying family. According to BPD the Ada County Critical Incident Task Force (CITF) led by the Ada County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the officer-involved shooting. 

The involved officer will be placed on administrative leave, per policy., while there is an investigation.
