Coroner identifies man shot by police in Boise

47-year-old Guadalupe Reyes was identified Wednesday by the Ada County Coroner.

BOISE, Idaho — In an update on Wednesday, Nov. 13, the Ada County Coroner's Office released the identity of the individual shot by police. 47-year-old Guadalupe Reyes, from Boise, died at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center on Nov. 10 at roughly 5:30 p.m., after life saving measures were unsuccessful. In the update, police also said that Reyes and the victim knew each other. Reyes was staying in the apartment where the incident occurred, and the victim was his neighbor, police said. Boise police have also identified the officer who fired at Reyes as Officer B. Strodtbeck, a 4-year veteran at the Boise Police Department. The investigation is still active and pending. 

A suspect was shot and killed by Boise Police Officers following an investigation into a possible, "hostage or violent situation." 

The Boise Police Department (BPD) said the incident happened on the afternoon of Nov. 10 around 2:35 p.m., at the 1300 block of N. Liberty Street near St. Alphonsus Hospital. BPD said the man had a knife and was threatening another man and holding them hostage.

After negotiations the police were able to get the suspect to release the victim around 5 p.m. However, the suspect also came out still armed with a knife.

"An officer involved shooting then occurred with one officer firing at and striking the suspect. Officers immediately provided life-saving aid and the suspect was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased," BPD stated. 

The victim had minor injuries and was not taken to the hospital. No police were injured. 

According to BPD the Ada County Critical Incident Task Force (CITF) led by the Ada County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the officer-involved shooting. 

The involved officer will be placed on administrative leave, per policy., while there is an investigation.
