Bonneville County Deputies shoot suspect, the person later died in the hospital

The sheriff's office said the suspect was driving erratically and failed to comply with officers. Deputies surrounded his vehicle and,"shots were fired."

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho — A suspect who was shot by Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office Deputies died from his injuries in the hospital. According to the office, the incident happened on Woodruff Ave., in Idaho Falls on Sept. 1 around 3:30 a.m.

The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) said a deputy tried to stop a driver after they were almost struck head on and saw the driver crossing multiple traffic lanes.

The driver did not stop but deputies were able to surround the vehicle.

"Deputies were able to surround the suspect vehicle and attempt to contact the driver. During this time shots were fired and the suspect was injured," stated a news release. "Deputies and arriving Idaho Falls Police Officers began emergency medical aide to the suspect until Idaho Falls Ambulance arrived and took over. The suspect was transported to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center (EIRMC) for treatment and later died from injuries."

No one else was in the vehicle and no one else was hurt. Law enforcement has not released any more details at this time but are closing N. Woodruff Ave. between Chaffin Ln. and Bently Way while Detectives gather evidence.
