Caldwell police tech leads to 2 arrests

CPD said a newly installed gunshot detection system called "Flock" aided in the arrests.

CALDWELL, Idaho — Two men were arrested in Caldwell after police technology alerted the Caldwell Police Department (CPD) about shots fired.

According to CPD, on May 19 around 1 a.m., technology showed multiple shots were fired around 300 Belmont Street. Police found two suspects with 26 bullet casings, an AR-15 rifle and a 9mm handgun in their car.

Police said they arrested 22-year-old Johnathan Anderson for a DUI, discharging a firearm in city limits and carrying while under the influence, and 29-year-old Alex Muniz was charged with carrying while under the influence.

"The Flock system uses microphones installed in specific locations to detect the sound of gunshots and alert authorities. Flock Safety technology is instrumental in alerting us about gunshots allowing us to respond quickly, to precise locations where gunshots are being fired with significant reduction to 911 delay in response times. The system was installed in the city in 2024," a news release stated.
