BOISE -- A California man convicted of having a sexual relationship with an underage girl will spend 120 days in jail, a judge ruled Tuesday.

Quinn E. Harrison, 25, pleaded guilty to sexual abuse of a minor in April. He was arrested after Nampa Police uncovered evidence that he had had an inappropriate relationship with the victim, who had just finished eighth grade.

Prosecutors asked Judge George Southworth to send Harrison to prison, but the judge chose instead to hand down a suspended seven-year sentence and four months of jail time. Harrison was also ordered to register as a sex offender.

The investigation into the sexual abuse case began in October. Prosecutors say Harrison sent the victim multiple sexually explicit Facebook messages and kissed her on several occasions.

"This was a clear case of someone using their position of trust to groom a young victim and take advantage of her," Prosecutor Bryan Taylor said in a statement. "A sexual offense such as this is something that society and our children deserve protection from and that is why we argued for an imposed prison sentence."
