COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho -- The man accused of running an embezzlement scheme out of the Coeur d'Alene resort insists he is innocent.
Tony Parks was the dockmaster at the Coeur d'Alene Resort for years. According to Coeur d'Alene Police, he issued phony cash refunds and pocketed cash from the registers during his time there.
Authorities said he stole nearly half a million dollars dating back to 2005.
According to court documents, he admitted it to both resort staff and police when they confronted him. The resort also installed security cameras to catch him in the act.
He officially pleaded not guilty to grand theft in mid-January. The trial is headed to a jury trial after Parks waived his right to a pre-trial hearing. That trial is scheduled for early May.
The case was continued last December, when both legal teams requested more time. The prosecution called the case complicated, and that the amount stolen could be more or less than originally thought because the resort books were not being kept well.
