BOISE -- Residents in the Boise Depot neighborhood are shocked by Wednesday night's deadly shooting.

Boise Police say it happened just before 9 p.m.

We now know the victim is 21-year-old Zacheriah Peterson. The Ada County Coroner's Office confirms he died from a gunshot wound to the chest at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise.

Derek Waters lives very close to where the shooting happened. "It was around 8:50 or 9, I was getting ready to go to bed and I heard a crack in the distance, I had made a comment to my girlfriend that sounded like a gunshot," said Waters.

Boise Police say the suspect, 24-year-old Brandon Bahr, ran but was arrested a few hours later at a home in Meridian.

Bahr was in court Thursday afternoon, where nothing was revealed about the motive behind the killing, or any other details about the case.

The judge almost immediately said Bahr would be held without bond, so the prosecutor did not present any details about the crime. Police will only say that Peterson and Bahr knew each other, and starting arguing before it turned violent.

Bahr now faces four charges including first-degree murder, aggravated assault, grand theft and use of a deadly weapon.

"Pretty crazy right, pretty much in my backyard, right over there, never been any incidents around this area like that in the past," said Waters.

Peterson's friends and family gathered at the Boise Depot Thursday night to mourn the shooting victim.

Bahr is due back in court for a preliminary hearing on Oct. 8 at 8:30 a.m.
