BOISE, Idaho — The man accused of shooting and killing Ada County Sherriff Deputy Tobin Bolter was identified Monday. Court documents reveal the suspect had a history of crimes.
The Ada County Coroner's Office identified the suspect as 65-year-old Dennis Mulqueen of Boise, who died from a gunshot wound to the chest Sunday. Ada County court records show Mulqueen had a history of nonviolent crimes that date back to 2007. Those crimes include open container violations, controlled substance possession and theft.
Mulqueen's most recent arrest was on Sept. 12, 2023, for a DUI. The probable cause affidavit for the arrest states Mulqueen had an open container of alcohol, as well as pills and baggies with a white powdery substance.
Mulqueen was released later that month and was required to undergo pretrial drug and alcohol monitoring. He was in and out of jail for repeatedly breaching his release conditions. Records show he failed two urine ethyl glucuronide (EtG) alcohol monitoring tests and began missing tests and pretrial meetings.
Mulqueen had a warrant for his arrest the night Deputy Bolter pulled him over near Overland Road and Raymond Street in Boise.
Police are asking the public for information on Mulqueen. Those with information are asked to call Ada County Dispatch at 208-377-6790 and ask to speak with a Boise police detective.
