EAGLE, Idaho — Eagle Police arrested a 65-year-old man for failing to notify police that his mother died after they found her body in an empty SUV near her home.
Police began their investigation into William R. Rhoton of Eagle after someone told police that it had been years since they had last seen Barbara Rhoton, 93.
On Wednesday, William Rhoton told police that she was visiting friends in another state when they went to her home, where she and her son lived together.
Soon after, investigators found enough evidence to suggest that Barabra Rhoton was not out of state, but had actually been dead for several months.
Eagle Police and Ada County Sheriff's deputies searched the home on Thursday after getting a warrant. Investigators found evidence that Barabra Rhoton's body had recently been moved.
They found her body in an empty SUV a mile and a half away from the home.
Police booked William Rhoton into the Ada County Jail on Thursday on felony charges of failure to notify a death to law enforcement, which carries a maximum penalty of ten years in prison.
The cause of her death is still under investigation.
