Eagle man being held on $1 million bond for vehicular manslaughter

Adam Paulson is being held on $1 million bond after being accused of hitting and killing a woman with his pickup on November 18.

An Eagle man is being held on $1 million dollars bond after being accused of striking and killing a woman with his pickup last weekend.

In the early hours of November 18, 42-year-old Adam Paulson was traveling northbound on Eagle Road, approaching the Eagle and Riverside intersection.

An Ada County prosecutor says this is what happened next:

"He was driving home from a bar after having consumed vodka drinks, by his own statement he indicates the first knew he hit something when his airbags deployed," the prosecutor says.

Paulson had struck 24-year-old Madeline Duskey as she was crossing Eagle Road at the Riverside Drive intersection.

Duskey was pronounced dead shortly after being taken to the hospital.

The prosecution stated that there is a strong indication Paulson did have a green light but was impaired.

"Mr. Paulson did submit to a field sobriety test and a breathalyzer, he blew four sub sequential blows, all of them above a .158, indicating a high blood alcohol level," stated the prosecution.

At the time of the collision, Paulson was serving probation for domestic violence and destruction of evidence, two charges he pleaded guilty to and was sentenced back in February.

"He was ordered by that probation to not consume any alcohol, he was coming from a bar, driving a vehicle with very high blood alcohol. We believe that this being a serious felony with a penitentiary sentence possible that his risk of flight is high and that his risk of remaining in the community is unacceptable so we ask that you set a bond of $1 million," stated the prosecution.

Paulson's attorney argued the bond was set too high.

"This accident happened on Saturday morning, if he wanted to flee he would have been long gone before he was arrested on Tuesday,'' says Paulson's attorney.

But the judge ultimately sided with the state, setting the bond at $1 million.

If found guilty of vehicular manslaughter, Paulson faces a possible maximum sentence of 15 years in the state penitentiary and a $15,000 fine.

His preliminary hearing is set for December 8 at 8:30 a.m.
