GARDEN CITY, Idaho — The Garden City Police Department (GCPD), is warning of two electronic scams where people had their data from their credit/debit card taken at a Fred Meyer and a Walmart. The first incident happened on June 14 at the Fred Meyer, the second was on June 15 at the Walmart.
"In both these cases the suspect(s) had come into very close proximity to the victim while paying for their items and told the victims they had dropped something on the ground. The suspect then followed the victims into the parking lot and began accosting the victims at which time their financial cards were stolen from their person or belongings. The victims involved in these cases were extremely vigilant and able to provide excellent information, however it only took seconds for these crimes to take place," the GCPD stated.
In both cases the suspect's attempted or did make ATM withdrawals and one suspect was in the act of trying to use the card at the Fred Meyer when it was cancelled by the owner.
"Please be aware of your surroundings, if something seems suspicious say something and be vigilant while using your financial cards. Keep in mind that these crimes are typically conducted by individuals or 'crews' who travel throughout the states," the department stated.
Anyone with information should contact the Garden City Police. The investigation is ongoing.
