'It just makes me sad someone would do that': Boise family's cat shot and killed

Boise police say whoever did this could be facing two misdemeanors, one for animal cruelty and another for discharging a firearm in city limits.

BOISE, Idaho — Trevor Ramsey says his cat Romeo was shot with a 22-caliber firearm Friday night. Ramsey lives near Targee and Columbus streets and is warning other neighbors to keep their cats indoors.

"I don’t know who this person was I just know it was senseless," said Ramsey.

Ramsey says he was relaxing on his couch with his toddler when he heard Romeo meowing.

"I heard a weird meow, not a normal meow," Ramsey said. "He was at the back door and he was walking kind of slow and I picked him up and I saw blood."

Ramsey says he rushed Romeo to West Vet.

"They did x-rays and found that what appeared to be a .22 round in him," Ramsey said. "He was put to sleep Saturday morning at 9:18 a.m. He had internal bleeding and they couldn't get his blood pressure up and the best thing to do was put him down because we didn’t want him to suffer anymore."

Ramsey filed a report with the Boise Police Department. Right now, they haven't identified any suspects.

But Boise police say whoever did this could be facing two misdemeanors, one for animal cruelty and another for discharging a firearm in city limits.

"If anyone is discharging firearms in city limits, especially next door to those places, it could be a kid next," Ramsey said.

Emma Leelewis, Ramsey's stepdaughter, says her heart is broken and she wants to warn her neighbors.

"He was my best friend and it happened so quickly and I was just devastated to let him go," Leelewis said. "It just makes me sad someone would do that. I would advise them to keep their cats inside for lives. It's their safety and this took less than 24 hours it would just be best for people to keep their animals inside."
