BOISE, Idaho — A federal judge on Thursday sentenced a Gooding man to two years in prison for taking bribes when he worked as an Idaho commercial driver's license skills tester.
Kelly N. Goodman, 72, worked as a skills tester from the 1990s until late 2021. The Idaho Transportation Department contracts with third-party skills test examiners to administer CDL skills test.
Federal prosecutors alleged that between December 2017 and May 2020, Goodman accepted at least $38,000 in return for providing passing scores on Idaho CDL skills tests, and he did so without knowledge or permission of ITD. Goodman pleaded guilty to a count of honest services wire fraud in April, a plea specifically related to receiving a bribe on Aug. 31, 2021.
In addition to imposing the two-year federal prison sentence, U.S. District Judge Amanda K. Brailsford ordered Goodman to forfeit $38,000.
In a news release, U.S. Attorney for Idaho Josh Hurwit credited the cooperative efforts of the FBI and the U.S. Department of Transportation's Office of Inspector General in the investigation that led to the charges.
