BOISE, Idaho — A Kuna man who struck a young teen with his truck and fled the scene in 2023 was sentenced to prison on Tuesday.

Chad Sizemore, 42, was sentenced to serve 20 years in prison for aggravated DUI and fleeing the scene of an accident on Dec. 18, 2023. That accident left a teen hospitalized, the Ada County Prosecuting Attorney said in a news release. He was found guilty by a jury of his peers back in October 2024.

As previously reported, on Dec. 18, Gabriel Bird, who was 17 at the time, was riding his motorcycle to his grandma's house just after 9 p.m. in Kuna when he was hit by Sizemore.

A Ring doorbell camera recorded the accident. The family was not comfortable sharing the video with KTVB for publication, but it shows a large pickup truck speeding away after a loud crash. Bird's screams after the driver left were captured on the recording.

The Ada County Prosecutor said Sizemore was under the influence of alcohol and veered into Bird's lane, hitting him.

"The young man suffered severe injuries, including multiple fractures, an injury to a ligament in his knee, and other injuries. The defendant was driving with a BAC of .125/.126 and has a history of both felony and misdemeanor convictions for driving under the influence," Ada County Prosecutor said. "Rather than remain on scene to provide aid to the victim, the defendant fled the scene."

The prosecutor said Ada County Sheriff deputies found Sizemore hiding in the desert outside Kuna.

On Tuesday, the office said Sizemore will be eligible for parole after serving nine years.
