POCATELLO, Idaho — A traffic stop turned into a drug bust near Pocatello. The Idaho State Police Domestic Highway Enforcement Team (DHE) said troopers made a traffic stop for an "equipment violation" and ended up seizing 3,000 fentanyl pills and 5.5 pounds of methamphetamine. They said they found the drugs after suspicion led them to use a drug detection dog, who then found the drugs hidden in a spare tire.
"This seizure underscores the relentless efforts of law enforcement to combat illegal drugs in our communities," stated DHE Sergeant Curt Sproat. "The dangers associated with these illicit substances cannot be overstated as they pose a grave threat to public health and safety in our communities. We are committed to removing them from our streets."
DHE said the stop was made on Thursday, Feb. 8 in the early morning when they pulled over a 2013 Chrysler 300 for a violation. Troopers said they arrested the people in the car.
