Minor in hospital after Ontario shooting

Police said a fight between juveniles escalated, several are in custody, some have yet to be caught.

ONTARIO, Ore. — The Ontario Police Department (OPD) said a minor was shot after a fight between two groups of teenagers on Friday, Dec. 29 around 9 p.m. The victim is in critical but stable condition.

According to the OPD, officers responded to a call about shots being fired in the Albertsons parking lot. Police said two groups of teens in two cars, a white sedan and silver SUV, had a physical fight. The group in the SUV drove away and shot at the sedan. A minor was shot, as well as several cars.

Police said the sedan then drove the victim to St. Alphonsus hospital in Ontario, Oregon, dropped them off and drove away.

"Officers responding to the scene encountered the white sedan traveling Eastbound in the 900 block of SW 4th Ave. The vehicle was observed driving recklessly and without headlights. The vehicle turned south on S Park Blvd. Two officers attempted to stop the vehicle as it continued Southbound at a high rate of speed. The white sedan ultimately lost control and crashed in the cemetery effectively disabling the vehicle," the OPD stated.

According to the OPD, two of the people in the car were arrested by police and had been drinking. The other suspect in that sedan has not been found. The SUV was later found and the driver was arrested, other people that were in the SUV also remain at-large.

Police are asking anyone with information to call the Ontario Police Department or Detective BJ Snyder at 541-881-3202 or email bj.snyder@ontariooregon.org.
