HAYDEN LAKE, Idaho — A man was arrested after he allegedly stole two canoes near Hayden Lake in Kootenai County Wednesday morning.
According to the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to reports of a stolen bike at a home along Hayden Lake. The sheriff's office also said the victim confronted the man, who the sheriff's office said falsely claimed to be fleeing from law enforcement officers.
The sheriff's office said the suspect stole a canoe from a home nearby before paddling and stealing another canoe.
Marine deputies with the sheriff's office were able to find the suspect, who tried to flee before being arrested.
The sheriff's office identified the suspect as 40-year-old Ryan Irwin from Hayden, Idaho. Irwin was arrested for grand theft and resisting arrest.
The sheriff's office said all the stolen property was recovered and returned to its owners.
