BOISE, Idaho — A man is arrested in connection to a Custer County cold case murder.
Thirty-nine years ago, on Sept. 22, 1980, a man was shot in the head, another was shot in the shoulder, and a woman had blunt force trauma to her face in the small, river-side community of Clayton, in central Idaho.
The Custer County Sheriff's Office has been searching for the person they say murdered Daniel Woolley, Walter James Mason, who lived and worked in the area at the time of the murder.
The Custer County Sheriff's Office, FBI, and the Idaho Fish and Game all attempted to find Mason but came up empty-handed, until now.
On Oct. 10, the Eastland County Sheriff's Office in central Texas found Mason, who was living under the alias of Walter James Allison, officials say. His fingerprints confirmed his identity.
Deputy John Haugh and Sgt. Levi Maydole of the Custer County Sheriff's Office traveled to Eastland, TX on Oct. 13 to pick up and transport Mason back to Idaho for his trial on murder charges, according to the sheriff's office.
Police say Mason is being held out of the county in a detention facility as he awaits trial. He pleaded not guilty and a preliminary hearing has been set for October 28th before Custer County Judge James Howard Barrett Jr.
