Man shot by deputy in Boise identified

The Ada County Coroner identified 23-year-old Dominic Soto from Boise as the man who was shot by a deputy. He died at the hospital.

BOISE, Idaho — A 23-year-old Boise man who was shot by a deputy early Sunday morning has been identified as Dominic Soto, according to the Ada County Coroner's Office. He was pronounced dead in the emergency room of Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise after life saving measures were not successful. The coroner has not released the cause or manner of death at this time.

The Ada County Sheriff's Office (ACSO), deputies were called on, Feb. 11 around 2:00 a.m., and after a "brief confrontation" with the Soto a deputy shot him. 

ACSO stated in a news release that they were called to the 10000 block of West Seneca Drive in south Boise by someone who heard shots, went outside and saw a man fire a gun near an irrigation canal.  

Deputies found Soto, who was, "holding a handgun, standing in the middle of Seneca Drive. A brief confrontation occurred, and shots were fired by a deputy," the release states.

The Ada County Critical Incident Task Force is investigating, and the Boise Police Department is the lead agency.
