Men caught on camera swiping tools, bikes from North End home

Michelle Moore said she's baffled the thieves did not spot the home's security system - or their "smile, you're on camera" sign.

BOISE, Idaho — A family is asking for help identifying two men who were caught on security cameras stealing property from their yard in Boise's North End.

Michelle Moore said she noticed tools and bicycles were missing Monday, so she went to check her home's security system.

The cameras captured footage of the two suspects casually walking into her yard at about 9 a.m. Monday. In the video, the men pick up lawn tools and two bicycles and take off with them.

Moore said she was surprised at the brazen nature of the thefts, which happened in broad daylight.

"The bikes were chained together, so we kind of thought they would be OK, but they weren't, as he's dragging them off on the side of the house," she said.

The family had installed security cameras several months ago, along with signs meant to deter thieves - including a large, hand-lettered one that reads, "Porch Pirates! Smile you're on camera."

"I couldn't believe they didn't see the cameras, and how bold they were," she said. "We have a sign up, we have security cameras, we have a Ring doorbell. We advertise that we have those things to deter people from doing that."

The security measures captured clear images of the suspects, and Moore said she hopes someone recognizes one or both and turns them in. Boise Police is investigating the thefts as well, and has asked anyone who knows the thieves or saw them walking around with bicycles or lawn equipment to get in contact.
