Meridian man arrested after allegedly harassing victims for their Latin origin

Police said they arrested 63-year-old Carlos Alexandre for malicious harassment and property-malicious injury to property.

BOISE, Idaho — A Meridian man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly vandalizing vehicles and leaving behind harassing notes.

According to a news release, The Meridian Police Department arrested 63-year-old Carlos Alexandre after he was charged with one felony count of Malicious Harassment and another felony, property-malicious injury to property.

Police said since Oct. 16, they responded to four separate calls for vandalism to vehicles at an apartment complex on Luxury Lane. All of the victims were of Latino descent. Police found notes on several vehicles harassing them for their ethnicity.

After an investigation, police arrested Alexandre who was taken to the Ada County Jail. 

"I want to be clear, this type of behavior is not a reflection of the values we hold dear as a community and is not tolerated," said Police Chief Tracy Basterrechea. "We condemn any act motivated by bias, prejudice, or hatred and will continue to actively promote a culture of inclusivity and understanding."
