Police: Man arrested after shots fired near Mountain View High School

Police said an 18-year-old man was arrested Tuesday after firing shots toward a residence in Meridian and attempting to run from officers.

BOISE, Idaho — An 18-year-old man was arrested Tuesday after police said he fired shots toward a residence in Meridian and attempted to run from officers.

The Meridian Police Department said it responded to a report of shots fired Tuesday on East Copper Point Street, near Mountain View High School and Gordon Harris Park. The school was put into hall check following the dispatched call.

Police learned the suspect, identified as Boone Nickerson of Meridian, may have fired at or into a residence on the street. Nickerson was seen going into a residence by witnesses following the shooting, according to MPD.

Nickerson then ran into the backyard of the home and jumped a fence while running from officers, but was ultimately arrested and taken into custody. Meridian Police said it had set up a perimeter around the home.

Empty shell casings to a 9mm handgun were located on the road and sidewalk nearby. Tuesday's news release said a handgun was found in the residence where Nickerson originally ran.

Police said Nickerson was booked into the Ada County Jail for felony unlawful discharge of a firearm at a dwelling house, occupied building, vehicle or mobile home, and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
